After 28 years at “the helm” of Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery in Shelburne, Joan Furchgott and Brad Sourdiffe are delighted to have their employee, Lara Maloy, take over the art gallery, gift, and custom framing business. To celebrate the occasion, a group show of approximately 17 of the artists now represented by the gallery, “Transitions”, will open on Friday, December 6, 5:30-7:30 p.m.  The gallery hopes the community at large can join them in celebrating this occasion, not only to celebrate the art but to celebrate the passing of the torch.

Lara Maloy has had a long stint at the gallery, over 14 years, and knows the business and it’s clients extraordinarily well. The business will continue to operate as Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery, but with Lara’s talent and well-loved presence taking it into the future. Her partner Nico Sardet will join her and his craftsmanship and artistic eye will be another asset that will insure it flourishes in its new incarnation. There will be both continuity and innovation in this new step forward.

Furchgott and Sourdiffe was established in 1991 in Shelburne, but was Shelburne Frame and Art before that, making it the oldest continuously operating commercial gallery and frame shop in Chittenden County. Along the way it has earned a reputation for showcasing an eclectic collection of contemporary fine art, and has retained a strong following among artists for its dedication to being a consistently high quality venue that treats artists with respect and appreciation and strives for integrity in all areas.
The custom framing part of the business will continue with Brad Sourdiffe still providing his hand finished frames, and the same dedication to customized, archival, and detail oriented work. Loyal clients return year after year and often travel considerable distances because of FS Gallery’s earned reputation for quality, attention to detail, and dedicated customer service.

Upon hearing the news, here are a few statements from currently represented artists:

“….just know that I appreciate all the attention and loyalty, to all us artists and the work we create. You’ve also maintained a space that, by your choices and your own creative skills, speaks clearly that art made in our region is as high quality and ‘sophisticated’ as in any of the more urban centers.”     Gail Salzman

“You have been such a support to a wide range of Vermont artists over the years and I am indebted to you for your support, patience and enthusiasm. I also think the world of Lara and can imagine this transition to be nearly seamless.”     Adelaide Tyrol

“Lara is perfect for the new owner, I know she will be a success.”      Kevin Fahey

“You will be sorely missed.  You have done such an outstanding job of supporting quality art and artists for so many years and been a beacon of integrity in the community.”      Joseph Salerno
