“I am drawn to unexpected color in the landscape created by light, atmosphere and the change of seasons. A bit of sunlight splashed on foliage or a river reflecting the surrounding colors influences me to capture it in a painting. While I dance between enhancement and subtlety the painting emerges bringing to life what first caught my eye. Being at one with nature brings a sense of serenity but also sharpens one’s skills of observation of the simplest of nature’s gifts.”
Williston resident Elizabeth Allen received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1972. While working in New York City in the design field, she studied painting at night at the Art Students League where she gained a classical foundation of painting the figure and still life. Her move to Vermont 30 years ago with her family stimulated her passion for landscape painting. Her award winning paintings have been published in “The Art of Lake Champlain” by Verve Publications and International Artist’s “How to Paint the Landscape” and “How to Paint Still Life”. Her work can be found in many private collections both nationally and internationally. Her triptych of Coates Island was commissioned by The University of Vermont Cancer Center.
