Philip Hagopian is an internationally acclaimed artist who has lived and painted in Lamoille county for many years. Born in 1959 in Massachusetts, the youngest of nine children to parents who had immigrated to New England to escape the political turmoil in Armenia, Hagopian is a graduate of the Art Institute of Boston and studied with master painter Frank Mason in Stowe, Vermont. His first solo exhibition was in 1980 at Earthlight Gallery in Boston and he has since exhibited throughout New England, New York, and Boston. Shortly after graduating, Hagopian left Boston and headed for the forests of northern Vermont where he carved out a life on his own terms, painting the beauty of the rural landscape. Simultaneously he began creating multi-media pieces which are commentaries on the irony of human endeavor. Hagopian embraced the strong cultural and historic ties of his Armenian heritage and traveled there frequently where he eventually met and settled, 2008-2012, with his wife and 2 younger children. He continues to exhibit in Armenia on an ongoing basis with appearances at National Gallery of Armenia, as well as several galleries and art institutes.
