Karen is a fiber artist living and working in Montpelier, Vermont. Her work explores the connection between self, place, emotion, and time. Seasons, atmospheres, and the time of day are of special interest to her. She tries to recreate these natural occurrences through the use of color, line, and texture. In her work she uses different dye techniques (batik, shibori, color removal, rust print) as well as sewing with custom weavings and fabric pieces and hand stitching. Her techniques are contemplative, encouraging introspection while other processes are spontaneous and unpredictable. Henderson successfully balances the two approaches, hoping to capture those ephemeral, fleeting moments of time that inspire her.
