An extraordinarily gifted author and illustrator of children's books, Stone's work is published by the prestigious firm Little, Brown, and is found in bookstores nationwide, having received many awards in the field. The collection for this show includes new small work in pastel and oil, and while there is some similarity to her illustration work in style, it is a return to the artist's dreamy, sometimes disconcerting, world that was not present in the children's books. Vivid and powerful, Stone uses mixed media to liberate emotions and experiences from childhood, motherhood, and marriage onto canvas. Stones' distinct and unique use of color not only captures a viewer's eye, but for many, gently coax long forgotten childhood memories and dreams. Visually and emotionally, Stone's work makes a fervent impact on those who are fortunate enough to experience it.
