Hal Mayforth, a Vermont native, currently resides in East Montpelier. He has made a significant reputation for himself in the field of illustration, with his work regularly appearing in such publications as Newsweek, Rolling Stone, U.S. News and World Report, The New Yorker, and many other major magazines. Mayforth's work, whether as illustration or fine art, contains many references to human foibles, but the current work also reflects such influences as Southwest rock petroglyphs, self-taught artists of the deep south and automatic drawing. This work, though still containing traces of Mayforth's trademark humor, is marked by intuition, spontaneity, and a vocabulary of marks, textures, and symbols.
